Day trip to Schiermonnikoog

Schiermonnikoog

A visit to Schiermonnikoog is one of the most special day trips from Ljeppershiem. Within an hour you’ll be on the smallest inhabited Wadden Island of the Netherlands – a place where nature, peace and space take centre stage.

One big national park

The entire island is a National Park. Dunes, forests, beaches and salt marshes full of birds. Schiermonnikoog is car-free, so perfect to explore by bike or on foot. Hear the sea, smell the salty air and feel the freedom of the island.

Explore by bike

From the harbour it’s just a 15-minute ride to the village. From there, you can cycle across the entire island – through forests, along the dikes and across the wide sandy beach. You’ll pass viewpoints, birdwatching huts and maybe even seals.

A peaceful escape

On Schiermonnikoog, life moves slowly. It’s the perfect place to recharge, walk and breathe in the fresh sea air. Take the ferry, hop on a bike and leave the world behind for a day.
