Frisian capital Leeuwarden
VISIT LEEUWARDEN
Leeuwarden is the provincial capital of Friesland and in 2018, Leeuwarden was even the proud Cultural Capital of Europe! There is plenty to see and do. For instance, the old city centre - with its many historic buildings - is very pretty. Central is De Oldehove, perhaps Europe's leaning tower. You can climb it or go up by lift: you will be rewarded with a fantastic view that reaches all the way to the Wadden Sea! But there are more reasons to visit Leeuwarden.
The Prinsentuin, for example, is a beautiful park where you can stroll and relax. Nearby is the Fries Natuurmuseum. In the city centre, you will find the popular Fries Museum where you can enjoy changing exhibitions. Shopping is possible in Nieuwsstad and Kleine Kerkstraat: once voted the most beautiful shopping street in the Netherlands! By the way: so-called 'prams' regularly depart from Nieuwsstad, allowing you to view Leeuwarden from the water. Highly recommended!
TO LEEUWARDEN BY TRAIN!
Visiting Leeuwarden is easy from Vakantiepark Ljeppershiem. You can get there in just 30 minutes. You can park your car in one of the city centre car parks. It is also possible to go to Leeuwarden by train. You can board at Buitenpost station or De Westereen station. The great advantage of visiting Leeuwarden by train is that you no longer have to worry about your car. You get off in the centre of Leeuwarden. As you can see, there is actually no reason not to visit the provincial capital Leeuwarden during your holiday in Friesland. And... after an active day in Leeuwarden, you can relax and enjoy your cottage in Friesland!
